Member Ambassador Councils

Illinois Chamber Member Ambassador Councils bring member expertise directly into the Chamber's policy work, sector by sector.

Illinois Chamber Member Ambassador Councils bring member expertise directly into the Chamber's policy work, sector by sector. Each council represents its industry's interests, develops policy recommendations, identifies legislative priorities, and serves as a direct conduit between Illinois employers and state government — under the leadership of a Member Ambassador drawn from the membership.

The councils exist to strengthen statewide industry representation, improve direct engagement between employers and policymakers, and build a formal leadership pipeline within the Chamber's membership — coordinated with the General Assembly session and the Chamber's Government Affairs team.

How Member Ambassadors are appointed

  1. Nominated

by Chamber staff, the Executive Committee, the Board, and council members.

  2. Reviewed

    by Chamber executive leadership.

  3. Approved

by the Board Chair and the President & CEO.

Each Member Ambassador serves a term aligned to one Illinois General Assembly cycle — roughly two years, beginning January 1 following appointment, with a maximum of two consecutive terms.

Leadership and cadence

Each council is led by its Member Ambassador, supported by an officer slate — Vice Ambassador, Legislative Chair, Membership Chair, Policy Chair, and Communications Liaison — with working groups formed around issues like workforce development, regulatory affairs, and economic competitiveness. Councils meet at least quarterly, with additional meetings during legislative session, and come together annually at the Illinois Industry Leadership Summit alongside Chamber leadership, legislative leaders, and state agency officials.

Councils operate in an advisory capacity; official Chamber policy positions are approved by Chamber leadership and the Board of Directors.
