As one of the most diverse and globalized economies in the US, Illinois has benefitted greatly from international trade. In 2016 nearly $60 Billion of goods and $28 Billion of services were exported by Illinois companies, making our state the largest exporter in the Midwest and the fifth largest in the country with international trade supporting more than 1.7 million jobs. Yet globalization, technology, new geo-political and environmental risks pose now extraordinary challenges to our businesses and entrepreneurs. Crafting a 21st century trade policy that advance the market and economic priorities of our region is critical to Illinois as 80% of the world’s purchasing power and 95% of its customers live outside of the United States.
