Earlier today, State Representative Art
Tenhouse announced that he will
be retiring in July to accept a position with the Illinois
CPA Society. Tenhouse, who has served nearly 17 years in
the Illinois House, will become the society's Vice President
and Director of Governrment
Affairs.
Tenhouse served in leadership for
much of the last decade under then-Minority Leader Lee
Daniels. After Daniels stepped aside, Tenhouse sought
the number one position and ran against State Rep. Tom
Cross. Cross won that contest and Tenhouse has not
served in leadership since.
During the
press conference Tenhouse said, "I wanted to do something
to make a difference. Working together with other state, local
and federal people we got a lot of things done that I really
feel proud about," Tenhouse said. "I wanted to do something to

and federal people we got a lot of things done that I really
feel proud about," Tenhouse said.
Tenhouse said that he
would not be part of the search for a successor given his
contract with the CPA Society. Adams County GOP chairman
Larry Ehman noted that he has already begun conversations
about a replacement and doesn't believe that the process will
be contentious. |

State Rep. Lou Jones died yesterday
ending a 20-year career in the Illinois House. Jones
was a forceful legislator and advocate for her South Side
district often taking on issues and projects that other
politicians would have avoided. Children, women's
rights, prison reform and sentencing laws were some of the
areas that Jones fought for before the General Assembly.
She served in House leadership for 12 years.
Speaker
Michael Madigan said the following in remembering Rep. Jones,
"Lou Jones was a valued member of our leadership team for the
past decade. She had a life long commitment to her community
and her family. I will greatly miss her counsel and
advice. The people of Illinois have benefited from her
service." |
