About the Employment Law Council
This Council strives to relieve burdens imposed by state government in areas such as workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, employment training and workplace mandates. More than 100 Illinois employers were directly involved in policymaking and strategy for the Council’s activities during the past two years.
Currently there are three Issue Committees to address pending and emerging issues:
- Employment Law & Litigation
- Unemployment Insurance
- Workers Compensation

Recent actions:
- Organized opposition to costly workers’ compensation legislation and was successful in seeking a greatly improved bill, which was signed into law
- spearheaded grassroots campaigns to overturn workers’ compensation fee increases, resulting in savings for Illinois businesses of more than $40 million per year
- two Chamber members appointed to represent employers on the state’s Workers’ Compensation Advisory Board and Medical Fee Advisory Board
- negotiated changes to the proposed WARN act on plant closings to bring in line with more employer-friendly federal law
- provided content for the Illinois Chamber’s upcoming Employment Law Manual
